This is another old shot from my very first UrbEx outing to Hellingly Asylum in April 2009, and I have decided to work on it and post it here today as I am returning to Hellingly with Mark at the weekend, for what will quite possibly be our last ever visit as the place is being rapidly demolished. Our friend Romanywg shows in this aerial view just what is left and what has gone. Mark was there with him last weekend and reported back that all the corridors have gone, so it seemed fitting to post a corridor shot here.
Excellent image V. It’s sad to see the place go and unfortunately I’m not sure if I’ll be able to get the time to try and take a last look. Have fun on your visit, I very much look forward to seeing the results.
Love the detail, Viveca. Great use of the 16mm.
Classic ‘V’ corridor image – well processed as always. I do believe that this is no longer standing.
This image begs the question “Which way to turn?” It strongly conveys a frustrating dilemma most likely confronted by many patients in the Hellingly Asylum. Troubling and very effective, Viveca.
Thanks everyone, and yes, this was taken with my 16mm fisheye lens – I used to use it a lot back then, but less so now as I feel that the distortion can become too ‘samey’ if used frequently. It certainly has its occasional uses though!
Wow, if only the walls could speak…what a story they could tell, I’m sure! Wonderfully composed and framed shot. Love the extreme wide angle (is it a fish eye?). My eye is drawn to the contrast of red brick and green wall. Delicious grunge. Well done, Viveca!
Awesome shot! Great color, texture, and perpspective
This is a great use of a fisheye…love that you can see to the end of both corridors!
What a great image. I love the light peeking through the roof and the exposed brick is just stellar. I am heartbroken that the site is on it’s way out. Looking VERY forward to more images of this site from your next shoot there!
